Denim and Dancing Saturday night

A Denim and Dancing event benefiting the Franklin County Special Olympics will be Saturday, Jan. 4 at the Hagansport Community Center. The event will begin at 5 p.m. with the serving of Hume’s famous stew.

Area artists plan annual meeting

The Franklin County Arts Alliance will have its annual membership meeting and potluck dinner at the Cultural Arts Center at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, January 2.

Texas Guitar Quartet concert slated here

The Texas Guitar Quartet will be presented in concert at the Mount Vernon Music Hall at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, November 23. The group has firmly established a reputation as the premier guitar ensemble in Texas.

“A Night Before Christmas” dinner rescheduled for Friday

“A Night Before Christmas” dinner with entertainment will be Friday evening, December 13. The event was rescheduled from last week due inclement weather.

Public debate Tuesday at Cultural Arts Center

The Franklin County Arts Alliance will partner with the Mount Vernon High School Debate teams for a Cross Examination (CX) debate for the public at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12

Origami ornaments workshop Saturday, December 14

The Franklin County Arts Alliance is offering a class on how to make Origami Christmas Ornaments Saturday, Dec. 14. The class will be from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Cultural Arts Center at 100 Rusk St. For more information, see the December 12 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Exhibits, programs open in November

The Franklin County Arts Alliance is collaborating for a variety of programs during November.
The production Hiding In Plain Sight will be presented at 6 p.m. Saturday, November 2.

Gingerbread houses on display at arts center

A little gingerbread village is taking shape at the Cultural Arts CenterJulia, Alea and Alexis Minter’s gingerbread creation is on display at the Cultural Arts Center along with several others created by area families. The Franklin County Arts Alliance, with the assistance of First National Bank, made available gingerbread house kits earlier this year.

Bigony honored by National Watercolor Society

Ron Bigony, an East Texas artist with ties to the local art community, was recently honored with the National Watercolor Society’s Signature status. Mr. Bigony’s work was carefully reviewed and closely examined by a jury of three and was determined to be of high quality.
