Opening ceremonies Friday, April 3

Opening ceremonies for the 2009 Summer youth baseball and softball programs is set for 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 3 at Lindley Field. All players and coaches need to meet at Lindley Field at 5:20 p.m. in full uniform. For more information, see the April 2 edition of the Optic-Herald.

Key Club Bake-off set April 18

The Mount Vernon Key Club will be sponsoring its sixth annual Bake-off on Saturday, April 18. Money raised from the event will be donated to Community Food Bank of Franklin County located at Hilltop Baptist Church. The event is in conjunction with the Cypress SpringFest activities. National Day of Prayer table captain meeting Thursday

Franklin County’s National Day of Prayer Task Force has set an organizational meeting for table captains for Thursday, April 2 at 2:30 p.m. at the Sweete Shoppe. All table captains and those interested in being a host for a table are encouraged to attend to receive event information and tickets. Biking, arts, history, and food combine for 2009 Cypress SpringFest

Mix bikes, art, history and good food and you have Cypress SpringFest, a spring weekend in Franklin County unlike anything in Texas. The event-packed weekend of April 17-18 has something for almost every taste.

Hawkquest program set Wednesday, April 1

The Friends of the Franklin County Library will be the sponsor for a program by HawkQuest at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 1 in the Intermediate Gym behind Mount Vernon ISD.
Kin Quitugua, a master falconer and long time environmental educator, will present the program and fly various birds ranging from eagles, hawks, owls, and falcons. For more information, see the March 26 edition of the Optic-Herald.

First in Courtyard Concert series set

The Franklin County Arts Alliance will kick-off its Spring Courtyard Concert series.Johnny C. Lately and “Diamond” Jack Holdsworth will perform 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 4 in the courtyard of the Cultural Arts Center. See the March 26 edition of the Optic-Herald for more information.

Durick is featured in tango, jazz concert

Percussionist Dennis Durick will be featured as a member of the Paul Unger Trio. The trio will present a concert program of jazz and tango music at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 5 at the Mount Vernon Music Hall.For more information, see the March 26 edition of the Optic-Herald.

Easter in the Park is April 11

The annual Easter in the Park sponsored by the Franklin County Student Chamber of Commerce is set for Saturday, April 11 at Tiger Stadium.
