Annual arts alliance meeting planned

Members of the Franklin County Arts Alliance will enjoy live entertainment and view a varied media art show as a part of their annual meeting. The annual meeting is set for 6:30 p.m.Tuesday, Jan. 13.  A display of photographic work by artist David Stinson will be up for viewing.

FCAA sets annual meeting

The Franklin County Arts Alliance annual meeting for members is set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13.  The evening will start off with a potluck supper at the Cultural Arts Center. See the full story in the 12-25 edition of the Optic-Herald.

Christmas performance

Christmas performanceClassical Christmas music dating from the 14-17th centuries formed the basis of a private piano performance by Lynda Davidson.  The first piece was The First Noel in the setting of Tchaikovsky’s Concerto No. 1 in B flat minor.

Kennedy wins coloring contest

First place winner in the Optic-Herald Coloring Contest by Jillian Kennedy.Jillian Lynn Kennedy, age nine of Mount Vernon, was the winner of the Optic-Herald Coloring Contest. The theme for this year’s contest was “Santa’s Toyland.”

CarolingMarsha and Garry Romines sang solos during the Franklin County Arts Alliance’s annual Christmas caroling party. Jermekie Fountain also performed a solo during the event. Approximately 30 people celebrated the season with songs and refreshments at the Cultural Arts Center on Thursday, Dec. 11.

Optic-Herald 2008 coloring contest

Second place Optic coloring contest winner by  Karlee Jo Fielden.Karlee Jo Fielden, age eight was the second place winner of the Optic-Herald Coloring Contest.

A capella concert

Suzi Byrd, left, Jason Awbrey, with accordian, C. Michael Hawn, and Jeanine Thames presented an a capella concert at the Mount Vernon Music Hall on Saturday, Dec. 13 to a crowd of approximately 85 people. Sacred songs from England, Germany, France, Brazil, and the Caribbean were performed at the concert.

Crepes and Crape Myrtles

Crepes and Crape MyrtlesTeresia Wims and Peggy Lowery, members of the Main Street and VIP committees, gave away freshly baked crepes and 60 crape myrtles prior to the Christmas parade on Saturday, Dec. 6.
