Twenty four entries was made in the contest. Between auction complete desserts and selling slices, the group raised approximately $2,400 to benefit the NETO home delivered meals program.

Arbor Day event planned

A celebration of Texas Arbor Day this year will be conducted on the plaza in downtown Mount Vernon. The event will begin at 4 p.m. Friday, April 25. There will be a brief program and tree planting ceremony.

Food bank chili competition sign ups underway

A chili cook-off has been set for Saturday, April 19 in downtown Mount Vernon. All proceeds from the cook off will be donated to the Community Food Bank of Franklin County. For details on how to sign up to cook in the competition, see the April 10 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

MOM meeting Thursday, April 17

The MOM (Ministering Our Military) Support group will have their monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 17. The meeting will be in the home of Kellye Cooper at 504 Greenhill Park Ave

Kids ride free in Rotary’s Annual Tour de Cypress

Kids age 12 and under can ride free in the Tour de Cypress Bike Ride and Run slated for Saturday, April 19. Runs of 5K and 10K have been added to the event.

Get prepared for Easter in the Park

Parents should be getting prepared for the annual Easter in the Park event to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 19 at Little Creek Park. The annual event will include the Easter Parade, games, sack races, and of course the egg hunt.

Men of Courage Car Show at First Baptist Church Saturday

The Men of Courage Car Show will be on Saturday, April 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot at the First Baptist Church. There will be 12 different classifications for the car show with an entry fee of $25 per vehicle, which should be paid the morning of the event.

Workday planned a Pierce Chapel Cemetery

A workday is planned at the Pierce Chapel Cemetery from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 19. Anyone with an interest in the cemetery is encouraged to bring their yard tools, a picnic lunch, and their lawn chairs to help with the event.

Bake-off entries sought

Advance entries are being sought for the 11th annual  Spring Bake-Off sponsored by the Key Club Saturday, April 12. Registration cost is $10 for each category.
