Tour de Cypress plans 10th event

The 10th annual Tour de Cypress Ride and Run in Mount Vernon has been set for Saturday, April 19. The event is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Mount Vernon.

Computer classes to be offered at library

The Franklin County Library has scheduled a series of computer classes that will be offered every Tuesday for six weeks starting Tuesday, April 1 at 5:30 p.m. For a listing of classes and what they entail, see the March 27 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Chili cook off, trades day, music planned at Alamo

Members of the Alamo Mission Museum are organizing their seventh annual music festival for Saturday, April 12. Along with music, the museum grounds will also be the place for a chili cook off

Kid Fish event is this Saturday

The fourth annual Kid Fish will be Saturday, March 29 at the Jordan’s Blueberry Farm in southern Franklin County from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. About 100 kids have preregistered for the event.

Men of Courage Car Show planned

The second annual Men of Courage Car Show will be Saturday, April 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot at the First Baptist Church. The church is located at 310 S. Kaufman St., just two blocks south of downtown Mount Vernon. For information on how to participate, see the March 27 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Cowboy church celebrates anniversary

The Sulphur River Cowboy Church will be celebrating their eighth anniversary with an event on Saturday, March 29. Included in the event will be pony rides and mechanical bull rides beginning at 3 p.m. Bingo with $1 cards still start at 5 p.m., as will serving of chili and stew.

Democrats select state delegates

The Franklin County Democratic Party met Saturday, March 22 to select delegates to the Texas Democratic Party’s state convention. Those selected as delegates were Minnie Birdsong, Edward (Mike) Parnell, Ben Dickson and Libby Aden.

Grief seminar set at Macon Baptist

Members of the Macon Baptist Church will be hosts for a Grief Seminar Wednesdays March 26 and April 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. Dan Boler will be the facilitator for this free seminar.
