Fairview homecoming set for May 15

The annual homecoming service at the Fairview Cemetery in northern Franklin County will be on Sunday, May 15. A business meeting will be at 10:30 a.m.

New president to be elected by Rockhill Cemetery Association

Members of the Rockhill Cemetery Association will elect a new president for the first time in 21 years at their annual meeting and pot luck luncheon Saturday, May 21 on the cemetery grounds.

Teachers earn national childcare credentials

A total of eight local early childcare workers have been awarded a national Child Development Associate (CDA) credential from the Council of Professional Recognition for outstanding work with young children.

Author and newspaper columnist Van CraddockAuthor and newspaper columnist Van Craddock presented a lighthearted look at some of east Texas’ most famous people as the program for the bi-monthly meeting and potluck dinner of the Franklin County Historical Association.

By-laws updated, incentive application concerns raised

The Mount Vernon Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors approved updates and changes in its by-laws for operations at the board’s quarterly meeting  last week. See the May 5 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald for a listing of changes in the by-laws.

Miss Mount Vernon Pageant meetings set

A pair of informational parent meetings for those interested in competing in the 2016 Miss Mount Vernon Pageant will be next week. The meetings are not mandatory, but registration packets will be available.
