Angel Trees going up over town

The Christmas for All Angel Trees are going up this week all around the community to aid families on the free or reduced lunch programs at the Mount Vernon ISD schools who have requested help.

Bryan featured speaker for Genealogical Society

Gene Bryan will be the featured speaker in celebration of Veterans Day at a program presented by the Franklin County Genealogical Society (FCGS) at  7 p.m. Monday, November 20 at the research library at 110 E. Main Street in Mount Vernon.

A free community Thanksgiving Dinner will be offered at the First United Methodist Church Family Life Center at noon Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 23.

Monday is deadline for Optic due to holiday

The deadline for news and advertising will be at noon  Monday, November 20 so that the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald can publish early for the papers to be in the mail before the Thanksgiving Day holiday.

Angel Trees have been planted

Angel Trees for youngsters under the protection of the Child Welfare Board were planted this week to help provide a little holiday cheer for children in need.

Thanksgiving dinner at Legion Friday

Members of  the American Legion and Ladies Auxiliary for Post 243 will be hosts for a community Thanksgiving Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Friday, November 17, at the post hall on CR SE4265, south off FM 21.
