High traffic

It appears that Mount Vernon Elementary School was not the only location in town that caused a traffic jam last week. A number of Hummingbirds stack on each other at the Redar residence on CR 2100 last week for their chance at a drink of sugar water from the bird feeder.

 

United Way benefit fish-fry Saturday

The United Way of Franklin County will provide an all-you-can-eat catfish dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4.

A member of the All American Cowgirl Chicks performs a pyrotechnic stunt. A ten gallon hat full of activities is planned around the annual Labor Day Rodeo this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday,  August 3-5 in Mount Vernon.

Big catch

Andrew Jackson, of Scroggins, caught a 48.5 lb flathead catfish on Friday, Aug. 20 at Lake Bob Sandlin. He caught the fish using an Abu Garcia 6000 rod and reel with 20 lb. test line.

Beans and cornbread served on the plaza during rodeo festival

The Franklin County Historical Association will serve beans and cornbread during the Rodeo Festival on Saturday, Sept. 4. Beans, cornbread, and all the fixings will be available on a donation basis on the downtown plaza beginning at 11 a.m.
