Festival adds spice to rodeo

A parade, bean feed, mini-concert and a dance will add spice to a fun packed rodeo weekend in Franklin County. The festivities will begin Saturday, Aug. 31 with a parade through downtown at 11 a.m.

Rodeo weekend has a little something for everyone

Fish-fry planned for Labor Day Weekend

The annual Labor Day Weekend fish-fry to benefit the United Way of Franklin County has been set for Saturday, Aug. 31 from 4 to 7 p.m. All-you-can-eat fried catfish, beans, hush puppies and fries will be served.

Lunches of Love

The lunch program has been ongoing since July 8 to provide a free meal to children in Franklin County. Last week, members of the Mount Vernon Volunteer Fire Department visited and served lunch to the children.

Riders Ride for Back to School

e American Legion representative Johnny Marshall, Pam Bolin, and Bill Germann made a presentation to Cynthia Linseisen, center, with the Mount Vernon Communties in School Program.The first “Riders Ride” for Back to School raised over $2,500 in backpacks, school supplies, and cash donations on Saturday, Aug. 17. The event garnered 23 motorcycles and 42 riders.

Go Rodeo! Festival coming together; parade, concert, bean feed planned

Excitement is beginning to build about the Go Rodeo! Festival. The festival will include a parade, concert on the downtown plaza, all-you-can-eat beans and cornbread event, and a dance on Saturday night.
