Constructive play is promoted at  This Little Light Learning Center in Mount Vernon.This Little Light Learning Center on Yates St. has earned Four Star status in the Texas Rising Star program and is the only non-federally funded facility in the region to attain this status.

Rodeo to provide family entertainment

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Posse Labor Day Weekend Rodeo will be Saturday and Sunday, September 5 and 6 at their arena off Hwy. 115 in Mount Vernon and promises entertainment for the whole family.

Condemnation resumes on empty Main St. house

The Mount Vernon City Council by consensus authorized the restart of condemnation proceedings on the house at 505 W. Main St., belonging to Ron Barker during their regular workshop meeting last week.

Goal of $43,000 set, funding allocations made for 2016

The United Way of Franklin County set a goal of $43,000 for its 2015 campaign that will be raised in 2016. The goal was set in conjunction with the approval of 13 agencies to receive funding.

Rodeo athletes sign up Monday

Cowboys and cowgirls planning to compete in the 2015 Labor Day Weekend Championship Rodeo must sign up between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, August 31 and September 1.

Free health screenings Saturday

Brookshire’s Grocery store in Mount Vernon will be the location for free health screenings on Saturday, August 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tests will be available for cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar levels.
