Sheriff’s Posse rodeo queen contestant sign-up begins

Sign-up for those interested in becoming contestants in the 2017 Rodeo Queens contests has begun. The contest is sponsored by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Posse in conjunction with their annual Labor Day Weekend Rodeo.

Refurbished Dupree Park, nature trail reopens

Dupree Park and Nature Trail reopened with an official ribbon cutting.The Franklin County Historical Association’s newly refurbished Dupree Park and Nature Trail were reopened with an official ribbon cutting ceremony by the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce followed by an informal reception in the Lowry Pavilion earlier in May.

The Carry the Load relay arrived in Mount Vernon around 7:40 p.m. on Thursday, May 25The Carry the Load relay arrived in Mount Vernon around 7:40 p.m. on Thursday, May 25 on their way to Dallas from New York. Lowe’s Regional Distribution Center sponsored the leg of the Relay from Winfield to Mount Vernon.

Two more existing business structure grants passed their first hurdles on their way to rehabbing buildings in downtown Mount Vernon. Public hearings and subsequent approval by the Mount Vernon Economic Development Board were accomplished last week.
