Open house and blood drive set for Friday

Mission Manor Nursing Home will conduct an Open House, and the staff is inviting the community to join them in celebrating Senior Health on Friday, September 5 from 1 to 5 p.m.

Writers workshop registration open

The Northeast Texas Writers Organization (NETWO) will conduct a workshop for beginning writers on Saturday, Sept. 6 from 3-6 p.m at Pizza Inn, in Pittsburg.

Local supporters honored for $45,000 in contributions

Those receiving plaques were, front row, Frankie Cooper for the Order of the Eastern Star, Mount Vernon ISD employees Marsha Romines and Deanne Sewell, back row, Garry Romines for the First National Bank, John Gholson for Luminant, Jim Alford, Bobby Elbert and Richard Lee for the Masonic Lodge.The United Way of Franklin County, Texas honored businesses and group supporters for their expected contributions of $45,000 in funds during 2014.

United Way Fish-fry Saturday

The United Way of Franklin County will provide an all-you-can-eat catfish dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Masonic Lodge Hall on Saturday, August 30.

Rodeo weekend has a little something for everyone

Eleven young ladies will be involved with the competition for three crowns for the Franklin County Sheriff’s Posse, including front row, Rodeo Queen Baukje Talsma, queen contestant Daisy Gray, Junior Princess Whitney Ashley, Little Miss contestants Haley Fitzpatrick and Rebekah McQueen, queen contestant Jocee Neal, Junior Queen Skyler Gregory, back row, junior queen contestants Harlie Kaye Robertson, Bugz Panther, Nicole Barela, and McKenna Wiler.A ten gallon hat full of activities is planned around the annual Labor Day Rodeo this Saturday and Sunday,  August 30 and 31 in Mount Vernon.
