Trash pick up days changed for holidays

The regular trash pick up days for the City of Mount Vernon and rural areas will be altered for the week of Christmas and New Year’s. For a listing of pick up days for both Sanitation Solutions and Tabor Sanitation, see the December 19 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Black Onyx Club “A Night Before Christmas”

Della Duffey Robinson was the featured performerDella Duffey Robinson was the featured performer at the Black Onyx Club’s annual “A Night Before Christmas” event on Friday, Dec. 13.   More than 45 people attended the dinner in support of the group’s scholarships for graduating high school seniors.

Hundreds helped by local holiday assistance programs

The jointly conducted Christmas for All food basket and gift program was declared a success by volunteers and coordinating organizations. In addition, the Franklin County Child Welfare Board served local children in foster care, and 67 Community In Schools families shopped at a specially organized “Christmas Store” for needed items.

Boulware, Jordan win Jingle Bell Jog

T. J. Bouleware and Kayce Jordan were recognized as the first male and female runners to complete the second annual 5K Jingle Bell Jog event. He finished the course in 22:20, and she recorded a time of 24:47.

Hospice volunteers needed

As we all begin to look forward to the Christmas holidays and the New Year, many people in the community are dealing with life changing situations. Heart to Heart Hospice is seeking people to come and join their volunteer program.

Tour of Trees open, voting Saturday

The Franklin County Historical Association will be conducting a Tour of Trees in the freight room at the Old Depot Museum from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 21.

Angel gifts to be picked up next Tuesday, Wednesday
