Council eliminates two committees

The Mount Vernon City Council eliminated two committees from the mayor’s list of appointments to be made for 2015. The two committees were the one person Public Safety Committee and the Planning and Zoning Committee.

No Second Saturday event in January

The weatherman is predicting a 40 percent chance of snow with a high of 35 degrees on Friday and a chilling 36 degrees on Saturday. So, Main Street’s 2nd Saturday organizers have called off the official event.

First quarter clean-up continues

The City of Mount Vernon’s First Quarter Clean-up continues through Saturday, January 17. The city is offering access to open-top dumpsters at its maintenance facility on Holbrook St. (Spur 423), between Andrews and Grady streets.

Volunteers are being asked to help rebuild a body or a room for Dejah Arnold, who at 12 is battling leukemia for the second time in her young life. A drive to find a matching stem cell donor is set for Saturday, January 17.

City’s clean-up starts Saturday
