These four, plus Wayne McAllister, worked to assemble the pieces that will become an ice skating rink on Saturday, November 2 on the tennis court at Little Creek Park. The ice rink will open for skaters on Friday, November 15.

Veteran’s programs Monday

Members of the Mount Vernon High School Student Council will be hosts for a Veteran’s Day Program on Monday, November 11 at the school. The Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Post 3992 will have a hot dog lunch for veterans at noon on Monday, November 11. For more information, see the November 7 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Secret Service Agent to provide look into Kennedy assassination

Retired Secret Service Agent Mike Howard will be guest speaker Saturday for a program sponsored by the Friends of the Franklin County Library. He will provide a unique behind the scenes look into the events of the day President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.

Allen retires from service to county

Randy Allen, left, surprised his dad, Gerry Allen, when he showed up at a retirement celebration on Saturday, Nov. 2. The elder Mr. Allen did not think his son would be able to attend.Gerry Allen retired as Fire Marshall, Emergency Management Coordinator, and On-Site Septic Inspector in Franklin County effective November 1. Mr. Allen has served Franklin County for the past 20 years.

East Annex receives Best Overall Theme

Employees at the Franklin County East Annex dressed as characters from Duck Dynasty.The Franklin County East Annex took top honors as the business with the “Best Overall Theme” and was awarded the traveling plaque in the Merchant’s Halloween Dress-Up Contest on Halloween Thursday, Oct. 31.
