The various versions of the southern cross flags fluttered in the breeze, the sounds of musket fire and the smell of black powder filled the air as heritage was remembered and a local member of the Confederate States of America was honored Saturday, February 22.
Second Lieutenant Joseph Branan, a member of the Twenty-Fifth Regiment Infantry, Company K, Alabama Volunteers, was honored for his service. Heritage buffs and descendents gathered at the Snodgrass (Branan) Cemetery near the end of CR SE 3350. For more details from the ceremony, see the Feb. 27 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
