Icicles hang from a park bench on the downtown plaza Monday, March 3. A half inch of ice pellets and freezing rain fell on the Franklin County area during a winter storm on Sunday, making traveling hazardous, especially on I-30.
Semi trucks and trailers lined up along the shoulder of the interstate because the roadside park and truck stops were full to capacity. Franklin County Sheriff’s officers and local tow truck drivers spent much of Monday and into Monday night pulling travelers out of ditches when they slid off the pavement.
