Power lifting team attends meet

Four Tigers placed at the power lifting meet at Sulphur Springs on Saturday, January 25. Noah Craver took second place in the 132 pound weight class, Misael Guzman was third in the 114 pound weight class, and James Kirkman was fifth in the 123 pound weight class. Also competing were Corbin Craver, Cameron Greenburg, Zach Auringer, Patrick Hoffman, Devin Andrews, and Marquies Evans.
Ashley Brown claimed fourth place in her weight class. Also competing were Charity Berger and Natalie Oud.

Winter Guard cancelled for 2014

The Mount Vernon High School Winter Guard has disbanded for their 2014 competition season. The flag performers involve both Color Guard members from the band and other non-band students.

Buddy Bench

Savannah Maxton, at right, with the help of her dad, Byron, created a Buddy Bench for the Mount Vernon Elementary playgroundSavannah Maxton, a second grade student at Mount Vernon Elementary, recently read an article on Scholastic.com about a Buddy Bench. The story related how a second grader in Pennsylvania, Christian Buck, got a Buddy Bench installed on his school’s playground.

Lowry named to Football Academic All State

Grant LowryGrant Lowry, a senior at Mount Vernon High School, has been named to the Football Academic All-State team. To be considered, an eligible football player must be of good moral character, a senior, and have an overall grade point average of 92 or above.
