MVISD celebrating National School Lunch Week

The staff at Mount Vernon ISD cafeterias will be celebrating National School Lunch Week October 14-18 with special menus planned each day. During the week, students will be served meals that recognize their diverse student population.

Decker crowned 2013 Homecoming Queen

Kristin Decker is crowned as the 2013 Mount Vernon High  School Homecoming Queen by outgoing queen Megan Oud.Kristin Decker was crowned the 2013 Homecoming Queen during pre-game ceremonies on Friday, October 4 at Don Meredith Stadium. Miss Decker is the daughter of Adam and Tracie Decker.

Homecoming Parade Monday, September 30

The annual Homecoming Parade and Pep Rally in downtown Mount Vernon is scheduled for Monday, September 30. Anyone interested in entering a float in the parade should contact Jenna Baker

Hollingsworth, Wylie are commended students

Colton Wylie, Marcus HollingsworthMount Vernon High School principal Kelly Baird recently announced that Marcus Hollingsworth and Colton Wylie have been named Commended Students in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program.

School bus wreck anniversary Sunday

The 54th anniversary of the Mount Vernon school bus wreck will be Sunday, September 29. The bus, carrying students and faculty to a football game in Cooper, was hit head on by a salt transport truck at the intersection of Hwy. 154 and FM 54 near Cooper.

Homecoming queen nominees announced

2013 Homecoming Queen nominees Kristin Decker, Bailey Bohlken, Taylor Rose, and Maitland Rutledge with duchesses Jordanne Donica, Natalie Oud, and McKay Patrick.Mount Vernon High School Homecoming Queen nominees and their court for 2013 were announced Monday, September 23 at the high school. The Homecoming queen will be crowned in ceremonies at 6:45 p.m. Friday, October 4.

Duke Talent Search qualfiers announced

Seventeen junior high students qualify for the Duke Talent SearchSeventeen Mount Vernon Junior High students qualified for Duke TIPS Seventh Grade Talent Search for the 2013-2014 school year. This search identifies academically talented seventh graders based on standardized test scores.

Black, Ramsay to be inducted into school’s League of Honor

A group of five former students and employees make up the 2013 class of inductees into the Franklin County League of Honor. Mathus Black, Landon Ramsay, Kennith Swinford, and Dorothy and Charles Winfield will be honored during ceremonies on Friday, October 4.

D.C. trip in the works

A meeting to discuss the 2014 trip to Washington D.C. for junior high students will be conducted after Open House at 7 p.m. Monday, September 23 in the High School Library.
