Buddy Bench

Savannah Maxton, at right, with the help of her dad, Byron, created a Buddy Bench for the Mount Vernon Elementary playgroundSavannah Maxton, a second grade student at Mount Vernon Elementary, recently read an article on Scholastic.com about a Buddy Bench. The story related how a second grader in Pennsylvania, Christian Buck, got a Buddy Bench installed on his school’s playground.

Lowry named to Football Academic All State

Grant LowryGrant Lowry, a senior at Mount Vernon High School, has been named to the Football Academic All-State team. To be considered, an eligible football player must be of good moral character, a senior, and have an overall grade point average of 92 or above.

Siddens brothers place well at 4-H rabbit show

Kristopher and Marcus Siddens  of the Franklin County 4-H Club showed rabbits in several classes at the Texas State 4-H Rabbit Extravaganza in Gatesville and Franklin County 4-H had two individuals compete at the show.

Gifts for residents

Members of the Mount Vernon High School Spanish ClubMembers of the Mount Vernon High School Spanish Club visited Mission Manor Nursing Home last week and  distributed gifts to residents. This year marks the fourth year the organization has partnered with Mission Manor and Mount Vernon House to deliver gifts to local residents at Christmas.

Members of the Mount Vernon School Board were presented with button down shirts with the school logo and gift certificate to a local restaurant in recognition of School Board Appreciation Month.

Million Word Challenge

Kayleigh Stevenson, Lauren Tran, Ben Minter, and  Max Rutledge have read one million words.Students at Mount Vernon Intermediate School have been participating in the Million Word Challenge reading contest since early October. Students were challenged to read one million words in AR testable books throughout the school year.
