Carr re-elected as school board president

Mr. Carr was elected as president of the Mount Vernon School Board of Trustees for the second year in a row during their monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 10.

Crow named FCCLA Member of the Year

Bryce Crow, Lindsey Radford-Sims, Paige Peugh,  Breanna Bailey, Brenda Huerta, and Tiffany Tayler.Bryce Crow was named the Member of the Year at the annual FCCLA Banquet on Thursday, May 5. Approximately 30 people attended the annual event, and the officers for the 2016-2017 school year were announced. FFA banquet Thursday, May 12

Supporters and friends of the Mount Vernon High School FFA are welcome to attend the chapter’s year end awards banquet and silent auction set for 6 p.m. Thursday, May 12 in the high school dining hall.

Seawright, Hill, Evans named outstanding athletes for 2015-16

Jamie Seawright, Alissa Hill, and Kevi EvansJamie Seawright, Alissa Hill, and Kevi Evans were named as the Outstanding Athletes for 2015-2016 at the All Sports Banquet for Mount Vernon High School on Monday, May 9.

Rogers advances to State UIL

Kent RogersKent Rogers will be representing Mount Vernon High School at the State UIL Academic competition on May 24.

Reception to honor retiring teachers

Mount Vernon ISD will honor two retiring employees with a reception on Tuesday, May 17 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the high school library. Rita Long and Cathy Deal will be honored. For more information about the careers of these two staff members, see the May 12 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Cheerleaders receive All-State honors

On the heals of their State Championship, nine members of the Mount High School Cheerleading squad have been selected for All-State honors. The Texas Girls Coaches Association recently released the listing for the 1A through 6A conferences.

Woolley announces retirement

Saltillo ISD Superintendent Kevin Woolley is retiring after 32 years in education. He came to SISD in 2010 as the high school principal and became superintendent in 2013. See the May 5 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald for more about Mr. Woolley’s future plans.

FFA team advances to Nationals

Natalie Oud, Hylke Talsma, and Brandon WillimsNatalie Oud, Hylke Talsma, and Brandon Willims, members of the Home Site Evaluation Team from Mount Vernon High School, placed first in the State and earned the right to advance to the National competition.
