Members of the Mount Vernon ISD Board of Trustees approved becoming the first district in Region VIII to offer a Dual Language Two Way program. The district is currently using the One Way model, teaching students who are English language learners to be proficient in both English and Spanish.
The new program will pair native English speaking students with native Spanish speaking students. The goal is that both students will become fluent in both languages and be considered bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural.
