TDA Grants Extend Production, income for farmers

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced the availability of nearly $10.5 million in U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) grants to help agricultural producers enter into value-added activities designed to give them a competitive business edge.

Brown appointed to Supreme Court of Texas

Jeff Brown of Houston was appointed as a justice of the Supreme Court of Texas for a term to expire at the next general election.The appointment was announced Thursday, Sept. 26 by Gov. Rick Perry.

Buzbee is successful bidder in 12THMAN plate auction

HOWDY, WHOOP, GIG’EM!  There aren’t enough Aggie sayings to express our excitement over the record set today in the MyPlates.com 12THMAN Auction.  The $115,000 paid for the exclusive 12THMAN plate by Houston attorney Tony Buzbee will go to Texas A&M University and the General Revenue Fund of Texas.

Three Appointed to Oversight Committee

Three new members were appointed to the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas Oversight Committee by Gov. Rick Perry Thursday, Sept. 26. The committee guides the work of the institute, which awards grants to expedite innovation in cancer research, and attracts and expands cancer prevention and treatment research capabilities.

Texas funds biotechnology center

$3 Million Grant Awarded to Create
Center for Cell and Organ Biotechnology

Texas Emerging Technology Fund (TETF) will provide a $3 million grant to create the Center for Cell and Organ Biotechnology. The grant is an investment in collaboration with the Texas Heart Institute (THI) and Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.

Baggett and Stavinoha appointed to Texas Lottery Commission

Jodie Baggett of Ozona and Katie Stavinoha of The Woodlands were appointed to the Texas Lottery Commission by Gov. Rick Perry Monday, Sept. 16. The commission oversees the Texas Lottery, and ensures lottery and bingo games are conducted in a legal and fair manner.

Leadership named for Texas Higher Education Board

Hahn named chair, Jenkins Vice Chair, and
Huckabee reappointed to Texas Higher Education Board
 
Harold W. Hahn of El Paso was reappointed and named chair of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) Friday, Sept. 13, 2013. Robert “Bobby” Jenkins Jr. of Austin was named vice chair, and Christopher Huckabee of Fort Worth was reappointed to the board.
