Thomas Lowell Bennett,80, of Winfield, Texas, died July 11, 2013, in Tyler, Texas.
Mr. Bennett was born May 23, 1933, in Texarkana, Texas, to Nelson and Zelma (Poole) Bennett. He was an Air Force veteran, a Master Mason, and retired from the Sulphur Springs Independent School District, where he taught for many years. He also raised cattle for many years.
He will be remembered for his ready wit, youthful and fun-loving spirit, his love of cooking, people, and animals. He also will be remembered for his devotion to helping people with addictions through AA.
Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Betty Jo Bennett, and his son, Todd Lowell Bennett.
He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Bennett-Sciara of Mount Pleasant; a granddaughter, Channing Michelle Sciara of Greenville, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Danielle Baker of The Woodlands, Texas, a beloved pet, Verdell, and many friends in East Texas.
A memorial Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 205 E. Pecan St., Mount Pleasant, Texas, where he was a member and served on the church council. The Very Rev. Dr. Neal O. Michell, Dean, Cathedral of St. Matthew’s, Dallas, and the Rev. Ethel M. Channon, Deacon with Trinity Episcopal Parish, NET, officiating.
