Funeral services for Mary Helen Hicks, age 58 of Mount Vernon, were at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon with Rev. Jack Wallace officiating.
Burial was in the Mount Vernon City Cemetery.
Mrs. Hicks was born on Dec. 31, 1954 to Jimmie Deas and Helen Littlepage Deas in Sulphur Springs. She was a public school teacher and counselor. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mount Vernon and served previously as an officer for the district conference for the United Methodist Women.
She died on Thursday, Dec. 12 at East Texas Medical Center - Tyler. She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Deas.
She is survived by her father, Jimmie Deas; her husband, Rev. John Hicks of Mount Vernon; two sons, Caleb Hicks of New Orleans, La. and Daniel Hicks of Kerrville; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and James Anthony of Wichita Falls, Cathy and Garland Dye of Yantis, and Becky and Johnny Burford of Quitman; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Diane Deas of Tyler; two brother-in-laws, B.F. Hicks and Sid Hicks of Mount Vernon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were John Tutor, Preston McDonald, David Stotts, Allen Nottingham, Ken Greer, and Paul Fletcher.
