Sid Leslie, age 78, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Houston Heights, Texas, passed away in the mid-morning hours of Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital in Sulphur Springs, in the presence of his beloved wife.
Sid was born on December 14, 1935 in Houston Heights, Texas to the late Hubert Birch and Marion Maxwell Leslie. He graduated from John H. Regan High School in Houston and attended Sam Houston State University. Sid worked his entire life as a machinist having last worked for Metrix.
Sid married the love of his life and best friend, Ellen Marie Kennedy, on August 17, 1956 in Houston Heights, Texas. After 57 years of raising a family and living a lifetime of memories, she survives. Sid was a proud member of the First United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon where they joined as members in 2006. Sid was always a hard-working man who led his family by example. He had a heart for children having operated a group of buses with his beloved wife and truly loved coaching little league baseball. Sid enjoyed hunting and fishing, though he wasn’t the best hunter. One of his funniest stories involved misfiring a round in the back seat of a car on the way to hunt. Sid will be remembered for his loving heart and caring soul who was always there for advice and a lending hand.
Sid is survived by his wife, Ellen; three sons, Sidney Ray Leslie, and wife Desa, of Cypress, Larry Wayne Leslie of Rockdale, and James Jason Leslie, and wife Leanne, of Alvin; grandchildren, Michael Wayne Leslie, and wife Kissy, Jace Monroe Leslie, Savannah Kathleen Leslie, Kyle Douglas Baecker, Kelsey Makayla Leslie, Logan James Leslie, Joyrdne Grace Leslie, and Rhynn McKay Leslie; great granddaughter Skyler Leslie; and one sister, Nancy Margaret Raschke, and husband Don.
