S. M. “Mac” Boyd

S.M. “Mac” BoydS.M. “Mac” Boyd, age 88 and 5 months, passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of Friday, August 8, 2014 at the Mount Pleasant Healthcare Center in Mount Pleasant.

Mac was born on March 8, 1926 in Edom, Texas to the late Grady Patton and Eunice Lawler Boyd.  After high school, Mac proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II.  Mac married the love of his life and best friend, Anita Ophelia, in 1953.  After 59 years of marriage, raising a family, and living a lifetime of wonderful memories, she preceded him in death on November 2, 2011.

Mac and Anita began their lives together in Irving, Texas.  He retired after 30 years in manufacturing in the metroplex area.  After retirement he found his true calling – driving a school bus for the Irving Independent School District.  He never really thought of it as work because he loved and enjoyed the children so much.  They loved him as well, often bringing him gifts of baked goods and Christmas presents.  Mac was an avid hunter, fisherman, and spinner of tall tales.  He enjoyed people and always appreciated a new joke.  Mac loved his family, Christmas, and a good meal cooked by his daughter.

In 2002 he moved with his wife, Anita, to Mount Vernon to be near family.
Mac is survived by his daughter, Teresia Boyd Wims, and husband Tim; grandson, Cody Parnell; granddaughter, Amber Morris, and husband Larry, of Gladewater; twin sister, Jackie Harris of Flower Mound; nephews, Stan Harris and Rex Harris, and wife Beverly, of Flower Mound; and special nurse, Cindy Williams of Naples, Texas.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Moral Charles Boyd; one sister, Fay Boyd; and one grandson, Justin Wims.

Graveside services for S.M. “Mac” Boyd were held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, August 11, 2014 at Mount Vernon City Cemetery with Bro. Bryan Peck officiating.  Rex Harris, Stan Harris, Bill Kent, Cody Parnell, and Steven Kuykendall served as pallbearers.
