Stant Simons, 86, of Mount Vernon went to be with the Lord, Saturday, August 16 at his home. Funeral Services were held Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home with Bro. Bruce Blackstone officiating.
Burial services were at Restlawn Memorial Cemetery, Sulphur Springs, Texas. Serving as Pallbearers were Cory Taylor, Chase Redding, J. Paul Sides, Clint Moore and Kirk Whitlow. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers were grandson Ty Redding and the deacons of Purley Baptist Church.
Stant was born April 30, 1928 to Joseph Orville (J.O.) Simons and Argaree Davis Simons in Mount Vernon. He was a life-long Christian and taught Sunday school for many years. He was a deacon at Purley Baptist Church where he loved – and was loved by so many. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years, was a successful dairy farmer, he loved square dancing, and spent thousands of hours with his favorite past-time, fishing. But most of all, he was a dedicated, loving father and husband. He was the happiest when he was helping someone; and of the hundreds he helped, he expected nothing in return.
He is survived by his wife Jean Simons of Mount Vernon; daughters – Melissa Daniel of Cookville, Tex and Cindy Redding Wilkerson of Hide A Way Lake in Lindale, Tex ; brothers Nix Simons of Winnsboro, Tex ; and Max Simons of Mount Vernon, Tex ; sister Betty Brawley of Sherman, Tex ; step children Ann Sides of Greenville, Tex and Bill Prater of Bradenton, FL; six grandchildren Stephanie Taylor Whitlow of Justin, Tex ; Cory Taylor of Ft. Worth, Tex ; Chase Redding of Lindale, Tex ; Ty Redding of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Mollianna Scates of Tyler,Tex ; Lauren Moore of Royce City, Tex ; and five great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, J.O. and Argaree Simons, one brother, Merle Simons and one sister, Eula Mae Hill, and wives, Anna Margaret Simons, who passed in 1988 and Edna Denny Simons, who passed in 1994.
