Robert Donald MorrisRobert Donald Morris, age 78 of Rockwall, passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2017, on his property in Rockwall.

Don was born on August 6, 1939 in Mount Pleasant, Texas, to the late Horris Adrian and Thelma Wilkes Morris. Following high school, Don graduated from East Texas State University, now Texas A&M Commerce, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration. He then went on to earn his Master of Business Administration from Texas Tech University in Lubbock. Don started his career with Arthur Young and Company, an International Accounting firm, where he retired as partner in 1988. He went on to serve as Senior VP and CFO of Michaels Stores, where he served diligently until his retirement in 1997.
Don attended the First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon and was an active member of the Mount Vernon Rotary Club. Don will always be remembered for the many trips he made to Cabo, Mexico, with his family and friends and the countless days he spent living the lake life at Lake Cypress Springs in Mount Vernon. Don had a love for animals that led him to rescue countless animals over the years. He never turned his back on an animal in need, which gained him countless dogs, cats, horses, longhorn cattle, chickens, peacocks, and even a parrot. Those who knew Don best will always remember the love he had for his family. He was especially proud of his sons and loved his grandchildren with a passion. Don leaves behind a legacy of dedication to his work, a passion for life, and a love for his family that will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
Don is survived by two sons, Mike Morris and wife Leslie, of Trophy Club and Kyle Morris of Dallas; grandchildren, Robert Morris, Caitlin Morris, Chase Barlow, Hunter Barlow, and Jackson Barlow; sister, Ann Morris Scarborough of Austin; his first wife, Evanette Cowser Morris of Trophy Club; and by a host of nieces, a nephew, and other relatives and very special friends.
Don was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 30 years, Gail Morris, and by his brother, Max Wayne Morris.
Funeral services for Robert Donald Morris will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home, Mount Vernon. Reflections of Don’s life will be presented by Mike Morris, Kyle Morris, Ann Morris Scarborough, Don Campbell, Don Collum, and Rex Tillery. Burial will follow at Mount Vernon City Cemetery with Don Campbell, Don Collum, Bert Erpillo, Kyle Morris, Mike Morris, Robert Morris, Jeff Scarborough, and Rex Tillery serving as pallbearers.  Paul B. Saltzman will be an honorary pallbearer. I like to think that Don and I were good friends throughout Mount Vernon grade and high Schools, and he and I were were football teammates there including our senior year of 1956-57. May our gracious God comfort Don's sister Ann and the rest of his family in his loss.
