Roy Tedford

Roy Edward Tedford, age 95 of Dallas, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017 at the Edgemere retirement community in Dallas. A celebration of his life was conducted Sunday, Aug. 27 at Sparkman / Hillcrest Funeral Home.

Mr. Tedford was born in Mount Vernon  and graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1940.
He was decorated for his World War II service as a Navy fighter pilot in the Pacific. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and a Silver Star. One of his citations noted his courageous and determined action in the face of heavy anti-aircraft fire after escorting a group of bombers in a strike force against the Japanese fleet.
In 1946, he was honorably discharged from active duty and entered Southern Methodist University, where he met and married Mary Katherine “Kay” Anderson.
He left SMU in 1948, becoming an adjuster and claims manager for General Motors Insurance Corp. In 1952, he joined Allstate Insurance Co., where he became a senior staff claim representative, working with cases in litigation.
He retired from Allstate in 1984 and founded his own company, Southwest Investigation and Trial Preparation, a consulting business for plaintiffs. In 1974, He was appointed to the State Bar of Texas’ Sixth District Grievance Committee, on which he served until 1984.
He was preceded in death by his wife in April 2017. He is survived by his son, and  two granddaughters.
