Funeral services for Noel D. Chambers, age 77 of Mount Pleasant, were at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 2010 at Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant. Burial was in the Mount Vernon City Cemetery with Dr. Clint Davis officiating.
Mr. Chambers was born Sept. 23, 1932 in Mount Vernon to Chester Arthur Chambers and Wennie Opal Davis Hanks. He was a veteran of the U. S. National Guard and was retired from Lone Star Steel Company. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Mount Pleasant and the Masonic Lodge #70.
He died Wednesday, Aug. 18 in Mount Pleasant. He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-father, Holly Hanks. He is survived by his wife, Doris Chambers of Mount Pleasant; a son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Pat Chambers of Mount Vernon; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Buster English of Gallation and Susan Epperson and her special friend, Brian Treece of Warrensburg, Mo.; two grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, and a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Jane Chambers of Decatur, Ga.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Mount Pleasant.
Pallbearers were Joe Wilhite, Durwood Harris, Bob Sikes, Glen Slaughter, Dwaine VanHuss, and Glendel Lange.
