Graveside services for J. R. Sims, Jr., age 84 of Mount Vernon, were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010 at Smyna Cemetery with Bro. Jim Crittenden officiating.
Mr. Sims was born Sept. 11, 1926 in Windom, Tex., to John R. Sims and Noreen Ford. He was married to Ruthie Ann Sims. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Merchant Marines and during the Korean War. He served in the U. S. Air Force and previously owned a cattle sale barn in Mount Vernon and an auto auction in Sulphur Springs. He was a retired cattle buyer and a member of the Cornerstone Church in Mount Vernon.
He died Saturday, Oct. 9 in Mount Vernon. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Sims of Mount Vernon; a son, Rex Winkle and his wife, Cindy of Winnsboro; a daughter, Kim Scott of Winnsboro; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
