Ina Faye Teague Peek, 92, went to be with the Lord and her family on April 2, 2011.
Faye was born on September 2, 1918 to Sara Elizabeth Teague in Mount Vernon, Texas. She was the youngest of eight children. Upon graduation from high school, Faye came to Commerce and worked her way through college and obtained her degree from East Texas State Teacher’s College in 1941. In February of 1942 she married J. H. (Joyce) Peek at the First Baptist Church in Commerce. From their union came Mike (Beverly) of Athens and Jim Peek of Commerce. Faye’s grandchildren are Rachel (Seth) Flutcher of Frederick, Colorado, Meredith (Jeff) Davis of Keller, Jaron (fiancee Tiffany Mathias) of Lewisville, and Craig of Athens.
Faye was devoted to God, family, and her beloved church, where she taught Sunday School and cared for the children in the nursery for over fifty years. She was a mother, a homemaker, a care-giver to everyone, especially the young children of Commerce. She would love and “adopt” just about every child in town, opening her home to them. She would take food, medicine, clothing, and whatever she could to older people in need. She donated a lot of her time and resources to new churches in Commerce. Faye proudly served on the Zoning Commission and the Rosemound Cemetery Boards for many years.
Visitation will be at Commerce Funeral Home on Thursday, April 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. A graveside service will be on Friday, April 8 at 10:30 a.m. at Rosemound Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the First Baptist Church Pre-School Ministry Program or the Rosemound Cemetery Association in Commerce.
