Funeral services for Foye Griffith, age 85 of Mount Vernon, were at 10 a.m. Friday, June 3, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Mount Vernon City Cemetery with Rev. Pete Adrian officiating.
Mrs. Griffith was born May 7, 1926 in the New Hope community to James Yancy and Lucy Jane Mebane. She was married to Joe Griffith. She worked as a medication aide at Mission Manor Nursing Home for many years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1946 where she was active in the United Methodist Women, Bible Readers, and the Come Double Sunday School Class.
She died Tuesday, May 31 in Tyler. She was preceded in death by her husband in August of 1984, her parents, a brother, Chester Mebane, and a sister, Lucille Stewart.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and Kim Drummend of Canton and Barbara and Cliff Scates of Dripping Springs; two sisters, Doye Lee of Daingerfield and Madelle Grissom of Mount Pleasant; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Daniel Grissom, Douglas Grissom, Joe Stewart, Charles Hart, Mike Terell, and Ed Sandlin.
Memorials may be made in Mrs. Griffith’s name to the First United Methodist Church of Mount Vernon or to the Bible Readers at First United Methodist Church.
