Funeral services for Nina Rose Walker, age 91, were held at the M.S. Doss Chapel of Seminole, Texas on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Tod Delay of Family Harvest Church in Seminole officiated.
Visitation was from 6:30 to 7:30 pm on Monday, June 20, 2011 at Boyer Funeral Home. She was buried beside her late husband, William L. Walker, in Mt. Vernon, Texas. All services are under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home.
Mrs. Walker was born April 5, 1920 in Cooper, Texas. She married William Lowell Walker in Big Springs, Texas on July 1, 1943. After WWII, they settled in the lower panhandle area of Texas living in Plainview, Tulia, Big Spring, and Levelland. Having lived in Levelland for 34 years, they then moved to Mt. Vernon in 1995 to be nearer to their children and their families. In 2010, as the children moved for job opportunities and retirement, she returned to West Texas to continue to be with family.
She graduated from Texas Tech with a B.S. degree in Home Economics, teaching at the high school level for several years in Tulia and Big Spring, Texas. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed gardening. Her activities included membership in the United Methodist Women, and organizer and member of the South Plains College Faculty Women’s Club in Levelland, volunteer for the Hockley County Family Outreach program in Levelland for 10 years, and was a member of the Board of the Friends of the Library of Franklin County in Mt. Vernon, Texas.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Ben Tyler of Levelland; her daughter, Diane Walker of Seminole; four grandchildren, Tari Hohbein, Tami Tyler, Daphne Delay and Dane Edwards; seven great-grandchildren, Laci Hohbein, Haylee Hohbein, Katie Hohbein, Benjamin Delay, Christopher Delay, Emily Delay and Asher Edwards.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William L. “Hi” Walker April 28, 1999; her parents, James Louis Webb and Rilla Le (Davis) Webb; and her brother James Louis Webb, Jr.
