Sgt. Tanner S. Higgins

Sgt. Tanner S. HigginsSgt. Tanner S. Higgins, age 23 of Yantis, Tex., died Saturday, April 14 in Logar province, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire. He was buried in the Cypress Cemetery in southern Franklin County in services on Tuesday, April 24.
Funeral services were conducted at the Lake Fork Baptist Church at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. Yellow ribbons and American Flags lined the route to the burial sight in Franklin County.
Sgt. Higgins was born in Irving, Tex., on Jan. 31, 1989 to Danny R. Higgins and Patti Stone Sells. He grew up in the Yantis and Sulphur Springs area, and graduated from Sulphur Springs High School in 2007.
Sgt. Higgins is survived by his wife, Shelby Allen Higgins of Savannah, Ga.; his father, Danny R. Higgins of Hurst, his mother, Patti Stone Sells of Tybee Island, Ga.; three brothers, Dillon Henegar, Hunter Higgins, and Noah Sells; and his grandparents, Gerald and Betty Higgins and Glen Roy and Martha Dickens.
