Lady Tigers start District with wins

They started District 16-3A competition with victories over both Hughes Springs and Queen City last week, and now have a 12-6 record for the season.

Lions defeat CHESS in overtime

The Saltillo Lions  basketball team beat CHESS 49-47 in overtime on Tuesday, Dec. 9. “It was an exciting game to watch, a little frustrating to coach,”  Coach Bill Giles said. “We did a lot of good things, just not enough to turn it into a win.”

Tigers finish third at North Hopkins tournament

The Mount Vernon Tigers boys basketball team finished in third place at the North Hopkins tournament December 11-13. The Tigers began the tournament with a 47-35 victory over North Hopkins.

Kasey Cannaday attempts a jump shot for the junior varsity Tigers.Kasey Cannaday attempts a jump shot for the junior varsity Tigers. The junior varsity Tigers basketball team defeated Prairiland 60-24 on Tuedsay, December 2. and finished third out of eight teams at the Cooper tournament.

Lady Lions at Edgewood tourney

Both the varsity and junior varsity Saltillo Lady Lions teams competed at the Edgewood tournament December 11-13.The varsity squad won a close game in the first round of the tournament, defeating Marshal 35-32.

Seventh graders are runners up

Ty-Raven Linwood drives in for a lay up for the seventh grade team.Ty-Raven Linwood drives in for a lay up for the seventh grade team. She was named to the All Tournament Team at Paris and the team finished as runners up at the event.

Lady Tigers defeat Rains

The Lady Tiger basketball teams were hosts for Gilmer on Tuesday, December 9 and traveled to Rains on Friday, December 12. The varsity squad beat Rains 48-39.

Eighth graders are tourney champs

Annie Coffey makes a jump shot for the eighth grade Lady Tigers.Annie Coffey makes a jump shot for the eighth grade Lady Tigers. She led the team with 42 points and was named the Paris tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
