Eighth grade Lady Tigers claim second at Belt Buster tourney

eighth grade Lady Tigers basketball teamThe eighth grade Lady Tigers basketball team  took second place in their division of the Belt Buster tournament November 20-22. They faced a much taller Texas Middle School team from Texarkana in the Championship Round and lost 53-39.

The Mount Vernon Lady Tigers basketball team claimed an exciting 39-38 victory over Mount Pleasant prior to the Thanksgiving break.

Lions beat North Hopkins

The Saltillo Lions boys basketball team split their games with a win over North Hopkins and a loss to Chapel Hill to start their 2014 season. For information from these games, see the November 27 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Evans named Utility Player of the Year

Kevi EvansKevi Evans was named as the Utility Player of the Year for the District 7-3A All-District football team for the 2014 season. He was also named as a second team punt returner.

Seventh grade Lady Tigers claim second at Belt Buster tourney

seventh grade Lady Tigers basketball teamThe seventh grade Lady Tigers basketball team  took second place in their division of the Belt Buster tournament November 20-22. They lost a hard fought battle to Pleasant Grove in the Championship round after easily defeating each of their opponents in pool play.

Junior varsity gets consolation at Belt Buster tournament

Junior Varsity Lady Tigers basketball teamThe junior varsity team started the tournament with a 41-25 loss to Pittsburg, which put them in the Consolation bracket. They went on to defeat Mount Pleasant 38-28 and then Chapel Hill 24-18 to claim the Consolation Award.
