Mount Vernon's Early Warning Sirens are tested between noon and 1 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month. During severe weather, residents should take shelter in an interior bathroom or closet (preferably free of windows) until the storm passes. In the event of an emergency residents are instructed through the CodeRED emergency notification phone system, which is provided to local residents by their Franklin County government. Residents are urged to register for CodeRED alerts to be delivered to their phones. Phone numbers are not automatically added to this data base. Click on the link to be taken directly to the website to register your phone number(s). Local alerts and information are also posted on the Optic-Herald website and their Facebook page for easy access. |
