Pat Fekete, foreground, and Gaylord O’con work diligently on one of their watercolor paintings during the Southwestern Watercolor Society’s Spring Paint Out in Mount Vernon last weekend. Fifteen artist took short jaunts to sketch or photograph their subjects then returned to the warmth of the CAC to work.

Parents should be getting prepared for the annual Easter in the Park event to begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 11 at Tiger Stadium in Mount Vernon. The annual event will kick-off with the Easter Parade. Parents and their children are encouraged to prepare miniature floats to enter in the event.

Cowboy Church celebrates three years

The Sulphur River Cowboy Church will celebrate its third year of service on Saturday, April 4.The day will begin with guest speaker, Eugene Cox, and will continue with fellowship, music, an Easter egg hunt, a bounce house, and many other outside activities.

Members of the Beautification Coalition, a part of the Mount Vernon Main Street Program, invites civic minded people to join them in a Spring clean-up effort Thursday, April 9. Volunteers are asked to meet at Mount Vernon’s City Hall at 9 a.m. The group will focus its efforts in the downtown public areas and along highway entrances. The North Franklin Volunteer Fire Department will have a fish fry fund-raising event on Saturday, April 4 at tje Hagansport Community Center. Fried fish with all the trimmings will be served for a donation starting at 5 p.m. All proceeds from the event will go to the North Franklin Volunteer Fire Department and the Hagansport Community Center.

Bassist Paul Unger will be featured as a member of the Paul Unger Trio in concert Sunday, April 5. The trio will perform a program of jazz and tango music at 3 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Music Hall.

Key Club Bake-off set April 18

The Mount Vernon Key Club will be sponsoring its sixth annual Bake-off on Saturday, April 18. Money raised from the event will be donated to Community Food Bank of Franklin County located at Hilltop Baptist Church. The event is in conjunction with the Cypress SpringFest activities.
