“Hit the Ground Running” workshop scheduled

The Texas District of Financial Women International (FWI) is sponsoring a new FWI workshop entitled “Hit the Ground Running.”
It is being conducted at the Hampton Inn and Suites at 3044 Eastman Road in Longview on Saturday, March 28. See the March 12 edition of the Optic-Herald for more information.

Students meet mastersMount Vernon band students Madison Reeves, Torin Slater, and Jessikah Salaverria attended the concert by the American Horn Quartet at the Mount Vernon Music Hall on Sunday, March 8.

Yipee!!Good things are happening again at the Franklin County ball fields. The preliminary plumbing was completed last week by Steve Slaton and Tri-City Plumbing. Work on the concessions are underway.

Angel Food Ministries starting locally

Franklin County area residents can benefit from reduced food costs by participating in the Angel Food Ministries program. The program is designed for families and senior citizens who are struggling economically, regardless of their income level.

Kindergarten Round-up scheduled

Mount Vernon Elementary School’s Kindergarten Round-Up for the 2009-10 school year is set for Thursday night, April 2 in the Elementary School Library from 5:30 to 7 p.m.  For further details, see the March 12 edition of the Optic-Herald.

McAfee celebrates 95 years

McAfee celebrates 95 yearsA reception celebrating the 95th birthday of Jewel McAfee will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 15 at the Saltillo Community Center on FM 900 in Saltillo. Friends and family are invited to attend the come and go event. The family requests no gifts please.

Robertson earns Centurion award

Ralph Robertson recently earned the Century 21 System’s Centurion Producer Award. He is a sales associate with the offices of Century 21 Butler Real Estate Services, Rick Butler, broker / owner.

Marshall, Stephenson to present program

Jean Ann Marshall and John Stephenson will present the program at the Franklin County Genealogical Society meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, March 16 at the Research Room at 110 E. Main St. Mrs. Marshall has written a publication Driving Mount Vernon and Mr. Stephenson will present some of the information from the publication as well as ghost stories associated with some of the old houses.
