Shafer discusses audiobook

Shafer discusses audiobook Charles Shafer, a 1960 Mount Vernon High School graduate, was at the Mount Vernon Library on Dec. 5 to talk about his audio book, The View from the Chinaberry Tree.   The audiobook features the author reading his stories about growing up in Winfield in the 1940’s and 50’s.

Cook wins quilt

Cook wins quiltKim Cook of Scroggins won this blue, yellow, green and white baby quilt. It was given away in a fund raising event to benefit the Northeast Texas Child Sdvocacy Center. Saree Witson of Mount Pleasant was the winner of a second quilt given away in the fund-raiser. The quilts were made by volunteers from Quitman and supplies from Stitchin Heaven.

Concert set

Concert setMount Vernon Music invites you to attend a concert with guitarist Christopher McGuire at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16 in the Mount Vernon Music Hall. Performing with him will be Mount Vernon Music players Steven and Carol Harlos, Mark and Ute Miller, and bassist George Anderson.

Gift shop open

Gift shop openJackie Stempel was clerk at the gift shop on the ground floor of the Old Jail Art Museum on Saturday, Nov. 1. The gift shop, sponsored by the Franklin County Arts Alliance, will be open six Saturdays, through Dec. 6, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. All proceeds will go toward the acquisition of new pieces for the museum’s permanent collection.

Christian concert

Christian concertKeitron Fountain will perform a special Christian concert at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6 at the Bookman Temple Church of God in Christ. The concert will include most of the songs included on his new compact disc recently released.

Cindy Kent  prepares items for sale at the Old Jail Art Museum. The Franklin County Arts Alliance is opening a gift shop on the ground floor of the Old Jail Art Museum Saturday, Nov. 1. The gift shop will be open six Saturdays, through Dec. 6, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Music concert

Music concertThe principals of Mount Vernon Music Mark and Ute Miller on violin and viola and Steve and Carol Harlos on piano and cello were joined by guitarist Christopher McGuire and bassist George Anderson for a concert on Sunday, Nov. 16.

Chamber music

Chamber musicMore than 60 people attended the Whitlock / Clinton Chamber Concert at the Mount Vernon Music Hall on Sunday, Sept. 28. Featured in the performance were pianist Joel Schoenhals, celloist Jolyon Pegis, violinist Kristin Jutras as well as Mark and Ute Miller on violin and viola.
