SWEPCO’s 8.9 percent rate increase starts this month

The Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) has approved a base rate increase for Southwestern Electric Power Co. of $50 million which will be seen as a 8.9 percent increase on February bills.

The new rates are by state law retroactive to May 20, 2017. The PUCT granted a surcharge of $7.70 per month (7.9 percent for approximately 10 months) to collect the retroactive amount due. For more details about this rate increase, see the February 8 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
