Rabies confirmed in city skunk, dog confined

A skunk killed by a dog has been confirmed to have had rabies, and the family pet has been confined for observation, according to Colin Clasby, animal control officer for the City of Mount Vernon.

The adult skunk was reported to have been killed in the yard of a residence in the 900 block of S. Kaufman St. in Mount Vernon Tuesday, June 26. No humans are known to have been exposed to the skunk.
