Council relinquishes rail port grant funds in split vote

The final step in relinquishing the $1.2 million Federal Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant was taken in a 3:2 split vote of the Mount Vernon City Council at their Monday night, June 8, meeting.

The EDC spent eight months attempting to get approval from Franklin County to allow engineering and construction of a single beginner line for off loading cargo at the city’s land purchased northeast of the Lowe’s Regional Distribution Center.
