Disturbances, assaults, top Independence week reports

Disturbances, assaults, and public intoxication were plentiful during the past week in Franklin County. Many instances were reported during Independence Day celebrations, both at Lake Cypress Springs and private residences.

“Overlook Park was a rowdy place Saturday evening,” Chief Deputy Chris Mars said. “We had lots of calls in which we were able to settle disagreements without having to arrest individuals.” See the July 9 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald for a listing of incidents handled by local law enforcement last week.
