A triple strike from Mother Nature has left many in Northeast Texas shivering in the cold. Many have suffered through power outages and rolling blackouts as the power grid has struggled to keep up with the demand.
The first hit was the arctic air that pushed into the area Wednesday, February 10. The second strike hit the area Sunday into Monday. A layer of freezing rain coated surfaces early Sunday morning. Snow accumulated up to eight inches and temperatures dropped to 0.5°. For details about previous record snowfall and low temperatures, see the February 18 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
