Arson suspected in fire which destroyed house on FM 71

Arson is suspected after a fire destroyed an uninhabited house around 4 p.m. Tuesday, February 17 in the 7000 block of FM 71.

The house belonged to David and Johnny Birchfield. It had been a relative’s home, but had not be occupied in 10 years. See the February 25 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald to learn more about this incident and others handled by law enforcement last week.
