June 6 is D-Day anniversary

In the United States, D-Day is celebrated in remembrance of the brave soldiers who landed on the beaches of Normandy, France on June 6, 1944 as part of Operation Overlord in World War II.

Code named Operation Neptune, it was the largest seaborne invasion in history. For more about the events surrounding D-Day, see the June 3 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
